Hi,

You should have a look at the following web site. You'll find the flow rate for the Neilson river under "Quebec", and you can also click on the -description- icon (in french) or the -carte/map- icon where you are likely to find the info. Be aware though that the road on the river right side undergone some work in the last years and may not be accurate.

Section A is extremely interresting since it's long and nonstop. It's worth it. As far as I know it's been run between 10m/s (lot's of rocks) and 85 m3/s (fast, strong and tricky) but the best level is usually around 25-30 m3/s.

Section B is also very nice although much shorter. There are a few dangers that you should be aware of, especially the "mouse trap", a dangerous underwater cave. Also be cautious at the Undercut (also called Big Eyes) and plan a throw rope for the very last rapid, the Double Drop. I've run this section at 10 and 35 m3/s.

Have fun,

Felix

 Re:Riviere Nelson
Some friend pointed out that I shouldn't send you on the Neilson at 85m3/s unless I really hate you. Well... after thinking of it I guess that it's not the case, so you shoud be aware that this level for experts who know the section well. It's often impossible to make stops and there always are consequences if you miss the line (trees, holes, hydraulics, rocks, undercuts, etc...).

So it's been done, but consider a lower level for a first descent !

Hi, Nelson is one of the greatest creek around here. Below 18-20m3 I don't really go there, higher than 35-40 it rocks and alot more continuous where it's highly recommand to know the river (around 30 R4 and R4+ on the section A), but there is no max.
The B is greater in danger, closer to the road and shorter, more pool and drop, and great scenery when you take a look back. You need to still have energies after running the A part.
In spring or in floodings, there is alot else to do so around here.
